Miniature of the MonthColonial Williamsburg Room Box by Mulvany & RogersA favorite room box in the KSB Miniatures Collection, whether it is decorated for the holidays or not, is Colonial Williamsburg by Kevin Mulvany and Susie Rogers. It was actually acquired before the gallery was even open (around 2006) after Kaye saw a photograph sent to her by the British artisans. Drawn by the blue-gray hues of the wall murals, Kaye immediately began decorating the space starting with the intricate petit-point carpet by Phyllis Sirota. The Lomonosov Cobalt net porcelain set by Christopher Whitford was her next purchase. “I just knew it belonged in the butler’s pantry of this room box, a space I’m particularly fond of peeking through the back door leading to it,” says Kaye. In decorating this piece for the holidays, Kaye says all the beautifully subdued room needed was minimal accessorizing with dark reds and greens to make the Christmas decorations stand out. To accomplish this, she added the Robert Daws rocking horse, Lois Bigley’s delightful Christmas tree, mantel stockings by Jo Bevilacqua and Linda Young’s red poinsettias. Full credits below.
