Kaye Browning’s breakthrough workshops for miniaturists of all levels are back for a second year! The five-day event features four full days of classes taught by some of the most talented artisans in the industry. Held at the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center in Maysville, Kentucky, students will receive personalized one-on-one instruction in relaxed classroom settings. Guests will be treated to an opening night banquet and silent auction, as well as tours by Kaye of the KSB Miniatures Collection. In their off-time, students will have an array of after-school activities with excursions around Maysville and the surrounding areas including dining, shopping and tourism. Special this year is an optional Saturday evening Derby Day buffet held at the Browning’s home overlooking the Ohio River. Registration opens October 1st at noon. CONTEMPORARY STILL LIFEJohannes Landman Master painter Johannes Landman from British Columbia returns to Maysville to teach students how to complete a contemporary still life using traditional oil painting practices. Under the IGMA Artisan students will examine perspective, form and structure principles essential to preparing a sketch and learn how to implement color and contrast values, glazing, scumbling, ala prima and impasto techniques. If time permits, students will also be introduced to silver-point drawing.
LOUIS XV MARQUETRY COMMODEGeoff Wonnacott Miniature cabinetmaker Geoff Wonnacott, known worldwide for his marquetry skills, makes a special appearance at our 2025 workshops to teach attendees how make a Louis XV-style bombe cabinet. Students will cut and assemble wood, apply marquetry and shape brass and real marble for the finished 3"H x 4"W x 2"D commode. The KSB Miniatures Collection features many of Geoff’s pieces so it will be fun to join the British artisan and IGMA Fellow as he views his exhibited work in the gallery. OLD WORLD CRYSTAL CHANDELIERFrank Crescente Create your own sparkling crystal working chandelier under the direction of leading US miniature light maker Frank Crescente. The IGMA Artisan will provide basic knowledge so students can construct a four-light chandelier including chandelier arms and center column. Students will also learn how to chain-link fine-scale crystals of various sizes and how to wire the chandelier for illumination. This class is a must for miniaturists interested in creating their own lighting.
TEA CLIPPER MODEL SHIPRon Stetkewicz Miniature shipbuilding at its best! Ron Stetkewicz will teach students how to make a 1/12th-scale model representing one of the most recognizable and storied sailing vessels of the 19th century. Ron, well known in the miniature world for his metalworking skills, has followed in his father’s footsteps to produce authentic-looking and functional fine-scale objects. Students will be able to select which Tea Clipper model to replicate and be provided with a safe transport container.
RATATOUILLE & FRIENDS SCENEBeth Freeman-Kane Learn the secrets of designing tiny whimsical compositions from IGMA Fellow Beth Freeman-Kane, whose tiny fauna and flora have delighted viewers for decades. Students will craft a framed arrangement reminiscent of a rustic French kitchen complete with eight adorable creatures, a butterfly, flowers and classic kitchen objects. The South African artisan will share her award-winning sculpting and painting skills to help students bring their own creations to life.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL POP-UP BOOKTine Krijnen Popular miniature bookbinder and IGMA Fellow Tine Krijnen from the Netherlands debuts her first and only class detailing how to make a 1/12th-scale leather-bound pop-up edition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, beautifully illustrated by Marten Valk. Students will learn how to cut, fold, sew and bind a concertina-folded book with ultra-thin leather. The finished book has pop-up and moving parts, readable text and a tie enclosure—approximately 1" x ¾" when closed. Time permitting, students will also create scale copies of Kaye Browning’s Collectively Speaking series.
